Green Manufacturing
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands.
Examples include: paints and lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluids and carbonless copy paper, graphics and craft materials including glues and adhesives, permanent markers, and photographic solutions.
Painting any product involves the emission of some VOCs, and because of this the EPA requires painting companies to have a VOC permit which determines the amount of VOCs that the plant can emit into the atmosphere from its painting activities.
As a commercial painting operation our company is concerned about the emission of VOCs into the atmosphere, and continues to find ways to minimize or even eliminate VOCs from the process of painting plastic parts. We’ve moved more towards water borne paints as a method to control our footprint on our environment. For this reason it is highly unlikely that we will ever exceed the VOC permit limitations at our plants, and we have the capacity to add considerably more production to our facilities than many other companies. In fact, we provide additional VOC capacity for companies who are near or at their VOC emission limits already.
